David Zaslav's next act looks murky as Netflix & Paramount face off over Warner Bros acquisition
Just a few weeks ago, David Zaslav was offered a co-CEO gig by David Ellison in a Paramount-owned Warner Bros Discovery. Then Netflix swooped in and sealed a $83B deal for WB’ streaming and studio holdings before Ellison came roaring back with a $108 billion hostile tender offer for all of WBD,
But in the process of absorbing Warner Bros., Netflix passed on the basic-cable side of Warner Bros. Discovery, leaving the company’s portfolio of basic-cable platforms -- at least 25 by my count on the WBD corporate website -- to sink or swim on their own.
After a bidding war that reportedly also involved Paramount, Comcast, Amazon, and Apple, on December 5th, Netflix struck a deal to buy Warner Bros. for $82.7 billion, buying the studio, HBO / HBO Max, Warner Games, and more, while leaving cable and sports assets, including CNN, TNT Sports, and the Discovery channels out.
If NBCUniversal owner Comcast acquired Warner Bros., it likely would have resulted in new attractions based on DC Comics and Looney Tunes coming to Universal parks.

The Netflix and Warner Bros. deal might be great for shareholders, but not for anyone else
Netflix's $82.7 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. is, in many ways, the last thing a weakened Hollywood needs right now. The industry is still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, where theaters were forced to close and audiences became even more comfortable with streaming films at home.
The three-way bidding war that erupted after Warner Bros. Discovery formally announced ( back in October) that it was putting the ol’ water tower up for sale has apparently concluded, Deadline reports,

We expect Netflix acquiring Warner Bros. to hurt theatrical releases, but its effect on the wrestling landscape (particularly the AEW) is more complicated.
You've seen the news that Netflix is trying to buy Warner Bros, and you may have already hear that Paramount is another potential suitor that's trying to purchase the iconic film studio and many other assets under the big WB umbrella.
From the "Harry Potter" franchise to "Friends" and "The Wire," here are 30 beloved Warner Bros. titles that Netflix would own as part of its deal for WB.
Warner Bros., the film studio that’s older than television and probably your grandmother, has been the gift that everybody was trying to get their hands on this holiday season. Paramount wanted it. Comcast wanted it.
